Joan Allen

For well over 30 years Joan Allen has been supplying detectors mail order throughout the UK, Europe and the World. Many models are manufactured in the USA where, at first sight, prices may appear lower. Beware... of hidden costs: freight, import duty, value added tax, etc, etc. Also, if you purchase your detector directly from the USA, your warranty will probably not be transferrable: you may find that the time and expense of returning a faulty unit to the USA may be prohibitive. Buy with confidence from Joan Allen - Europe's foremost metal detector importer, distributor, warranty and service centre. On reflection you'll find there's no better value!

Joan Allen is an accomplished stage and screen actor who is perhaps best known for her portrayal of First Lady Pat Nixon in Oliver Stone's 1995 film Nixon. Allen grew up in a small town in northern Illinois and attended Eastern Illinois University, where she met John Malkovich. She moved to Chicago to join Malkovich's Steppenwolf Theater group in 1977, then moved to New York in 1983 to pursue a career as an actor. Her Broadway debut in Burn This (1987, with Malkovich as co-star) earned her a Tony award. The next year she was nominated for a Tony for her performance in The Heidi Chronicles. Allen has had similar success in Hollywood -- she has been nominated twice for Academy Awards for best supporting actress (Nixon and 1996's The Crucible) and once for best actress (2000's The Contender).

An almost pathologically shy adolescent, Joan Allen found the courage to come out of her shell on stage. Theater allowed her to be outrageous, to express sorrow and anger, in short, to be anything but the good little Midwestern girl of her upbringing. While attending Eastern Illinois University, the tall, angular student somehow attracted the attention of the flamboyant John Malkovich who would later invite her to move to Chicago and join the now famous Steppenwolf Theatre Company's fledgling ensemble. Working days as a secretary paid the rent while the nights belonged to Steppenwolf, and alongside the likes of Gary Sinise, John Mahoney, Terry Kinney and Laurie Metcalf (to say nothing of Malkovich), Allen developed a restrained acting style that enabled her to disappear into her parts. She has always possessed a genius for subtext, projecting so much more than what is on the printed page, and over the years quietly emerged as one of the most underrated actresses around.
