Jinxter is a game with quite a lot of humor which is good because those all too serious games are sometimes less fun to play. The fact that you can't die is ... a big plus. The manual is also nicely done and at first glance it looks like a newspaper but it is in fact the game manual and has plenty of humorous articles to read. There are some flaws with the game but they are common problems with most other games. If you're done with those old infocom games and haven't seen this yet or if you're simply looking for a nice IF game you should definately check this out. All the versions are mostly alike so just choose the one you prefer.
"Jinxter is a text adventure computer game developed by Magnetic Scrolls and published by Rainbird in 1987. Jinxter wird im erfundenen Land von Aquitania gesetzt, den eine starke Ähnlichkeit mit early-to-middle trägt 20. Jahrhundert Großbritannien. Die zentralen Charaktere in der Erzählung werden Wächter genannt - unsterbliche Wesen, die sich kümmern und anderen Leuten helfen. These guardians are described as liking to wear herringbone overcoats and eating cheese sandwiches. Ein Wundergegenstand, das Turani-Armband genannt, hält Glück und verteilt es durch Aquitania.

While Jinxter has some very artistic graphics, they are merely for atmosphere and do not really give hints or interact with the player. The descriptions of the rooms and locations that you find when you explore Aquitania are very detailed though, and take center stage while the graphics set the mood and atmosphere. The music and sound effects are non-existent in Jinxter, and are not really noticed.

Magnetic Scrolls' parsing improves with every game, and Jinxter accepts most complex sentences and synonyms. Surprisingly, the GO TO command introduced in The Guild of Thieves is absent, possibly because the complexity of the landscape would have made it too difficult to implement.
Jinxter is famous for its quirky, eccentric humour. Many of the textual descriptions are very long and have a humorous aspect. Each of the five charms provides a magic spell, and the words to trigger these spells are common placeholder names.
Jinxter is an excellent work of Interactive fiction, though it isn’t for everyone. It is text parser based, and there is no mouse interaction at all, except for selection of saving and restoring games, and graphic and text controls. While the parser is one of Jinxter’s finest features, it is ... can make things more difficult at times, as the game requires you to be specific in matters. Such as instead of typing “look door”, you should write “Look at the door,” and “Look under the door” in order to achieve the wanted result.
