Jimmie Johnson: Races
built 230 days ago
Jimmie Johnson began the year as reigning NEXTEL Cup Champion, but he didn't hold that title well during the first race. During the Daytona 500, he crashed during the last 50 laps along with David Reutimann. But he followed that race with 3 top 5's including two wins at Las Vegas and Atlanta. Eventually he accumulated 4 wins in his first 10 races in 2007 with 2 DNF's at Daytona and Texas.
Jimmie Johnson scored his 22nd-career win at the Brickyard, a fete the driver had been dreaming of since discovering racing as a young boy. Johnson bounced back from an earlier tire problem to take the lead. A late caution marred him back in traffic, but he was able to regain the lead and take the home the win. Johnson celebrated in style with a victory lap waving the checkered flag. Johnson, who earlier this year won the Daytona 500, is only the second NASCAR racer to win both coveted races in the same year. This authentic win raced version die-cast replica comes complete with all marks from Johnson's 400-mile wild ride.
Jimmie Johnson won the NASCAR Cup Championship for the first time in 2006 and then repeated in dominant racing fashion in 2007, after nearly winning in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Since his Nextel Cup debut, he has never finished worse than fifth in points. He now appears well positioned to defend his NASCAR Sprint Cup title in 2008 and beyond.
