How would a Jewish college student respond if her roommate said she's never known a Jew before or if a speaker said the Holocaust never happened? What if a professor lectured that supporting Israel is racist or immoral? Fortunately, college-bound teens from throughout South Palm Beach County areĀ invited to an evening of preparation for Jewish life on campus. The interactive, multimedia 8th Annual Campus Advocacy Forum on Thursday, March 13 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm will provide high school juniors and seniors with tools to respond and advocate if confronted with anti-Semitic or anti-Israel sentiments, statements or activities on campus. The Anti-Defamation League -- whose suggestion in 2005 that Jewish organizations mount an opposition to the religious right was rejected -- put Church-State Separation ninth on its list of the top ten issues affecting Jews in 2006. The text of that item is below. You can read the complete top ten here.

Conservative Judaism, known as Masorti Judaism outside of the United States and Canada, developed in Europe and the United States in the 1800s as Jews reacted to the changes brought about by the Enlightenment and Jewish emancipation. It is characterized by a commitment to following traditional Jewish laws and customs, including observance of Shabbat and kashrut, a deliberately non-fundamentalist teaching of Jewish principles of faith, a positive attitude toward modern culture, and an acceptance of both traditional rabbinic modes of study along with modern scholarship and critical text study when considering Jewish religious texts. Conservative Judaism teaches that Jewish law is not static, but has always developed in response to changing conditions. It holds that the Torah is a divine document written by prophets inspired by God, but rejects the Orthodox position that it was dictated by God to Moses [citation needed]. Similarly, Conservative Judaism holds that Judaism's Oral Law is divine and normative, but rejects some Orthodox interpretations of the Oral Law. Accordingly, Conservative Judaism holds that both the Written and Oral Law may be interpreted by the rabbis to reflect modern sensibilities and suit modern conditions, although great caution should be exercised in doing so.

In plain language, the result must be the establishment of a free and democratic homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a free and democratic homeland for the Jewish people. For this to happen, the Israelis must have secure, recognized, and defensible borders. And the Palestinians must have a state that is viable, contiguous, sovereign, and independent. Achieving this vision will require tough decisions and painful concessions from both sides.

The chief rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yisrael Lau, accused Lustiger of betraying the Jewish people by converting to Catholicism. [12]Others argue that being "Jewish" is both an ethnic designation and a religious one, so Lustiger's claim that he is still a Jew is not as controversial as it seems. Lustiger's strong support for the State of Israel, which conflicts with the Vatican's officially neutral position... won him Jewish support.
