The Jetsons is a prime-time animated television series that was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. It first aired on Sunday nights on ABC from September 23, 1962 to March 3, 1963. Like The Flintstones, it was a half-hour family sitcom projecting contemporary American culture and lifestyle into another time period. While the Flintstones lived in a world with machines powered by birds and dinosaurs, the Jetsons lived in a retro-futuristic utopia of elaborate robotic contraptions, aliens, holograms, and whimsical inventions. The original series, comprising 24 episodes, was made between 1962 and 1963 and was re-run on Saturday morning for decades. Its continuing popularity led to further episodes being produced for syndication between 1985 and 1987.
Animation Art Cel Ann Margrock The Jetsons are among the most remembered Hanna Barbera series, premiering in 1962 following the huge success of The Flintstones. The Ruff and Reddy Show actually launched the Hanna Barbera studio into its incredible creative dominance of animation for television in 1957, followed by the Huckleberry Hound Show in 1958 and then the premiere in 1960 of the stone age hit The Flintstones. The popularity of space age events and UFO's at the time inspired the studio to create another family situation...but in the future. This signature edition features three classic moments from the closing scenes of the original series.
The Jetsons All in all, The Jetsons have an exemplary family relationship. George is always hard at work trying to provide for the family, and Jane is a caring, intuitive mother. Even though the shows values are a little behind the times for today's standards, the characters exude mutual respect -- and that's something that people and families from all walks of life can learn from.

Like The Flintstones, The Jetsons borrowed heavily from live-action sitcoms, notably The Donna Reed Show and Hazel. The 21st century became a Futurelux vision of a '60s suburb. George Jetson (voiced by George O'Hanlon) pushed buttons for the penny-pinching Mr. Spacely (Mel Blanc). Judy (Janet Waldo) was a typical teenager with a crush on rock & roll singer Jet Screamer. Elroy (Daws Butler) was a bright little boy whose experiments always blew up. Astro (Don Messick) was one of the first anthropomorphic dogs that became a Hanna-Barbera standard.
The Jetsons The Jetsons ran for only one season on ABC, but the series was more successful in syndication. This led to a revival in 1985 with new episodes with more advanced animation that was richer in color and made the series even more futuristic than the 1960\'s version of the 21st century. New characters were introduced as well, including a new alien gremlin pet for the Jetsons, named Orbitty, who has springlike legs and suction cup feet, enabling him to hang upside down. He could ... tinker with machines and change color in accordance to emotion. Another new animal for the revival was a robot dog for Cogwell named Sentro, who served as a guard dog and a spy often used against Mr. Spacely in efforts to beat him to the punch on his latest projects.
