Jetsons: George Jetson
built 614 days ago
A reader who recently saw an old rerun of the futuristic cartoon series The Jetsons reports on a scene in an episode: The Jetsons took a long trip across the solar system to see a circus. There, the owner of a trained-flea act sold them his fleas [?]. George Jetson picked the fleas up and heard them making some noises. He knew they were trying to talk to him, but he couldn't understand what they were saying. George turned to his son, Elroy, and said, "You're the one taking Esperanto lessons— you talk to them!" Elroy was able to translate for the fleas!

In any case, The Jetsons videos did not disappoint. In the first episode, George is feeling a financial pinch because his son wants to go to spaceball camp and his daughter needs a new gown for the prom. Meanwhile, his wife is stepping up her usual spending habits. George begins to moonlight as a taxidriver and is nearly fired from his day job (again!) for doing so. Fortunately he wins the Venus lottery (in currency units valued at 75 cents on the dollar), but unfortunately his family then goes on a wild spending spree even before the payoff arrives.

The Jetsons premiered on September 23, 1962. The show is about a 21st century family. There's the dad George who works for Spacely Sprockets, the mom Jane, their teen daughter Judy, and their young son Elroy. In addition to the family, their dog Astro and robot maid Rosie live in their futuristic household.

Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law, The Jetsons are shown as unable to walk without a motorized walkway to help them. George mentions to Harvey, "We are from the future! The far off year of 2002!". Birdman glances at his calendar, which read "March 2004".

[One] vintage hit from Hanna-Barbera Productions, "The Jetsons" chronicles the adventures of George, Jane, Judy and Elroy Jetson. Although they drive flying cars and have fully functional robots, the Jetsons still deal with the same kind of problems that bedevil most families. This collection contains all 24 episodes from the cartoon's first season. Mel Blanc and Penny Singleton (from the "Blondie" movie serials) are among the voices.

They're the Jetsons! They can rocket to the future, they can rocket to the moon, they can work on jupiter, or play on neptune. Machines do the working, machines do run, if they need anything they push a button and it's done. Their house is in the heaven, the free way is in the sky, but their feet are on the ground 'cause they're just regular guys. Judy's got a boyfriend, Elroy's got his theme, Jane's shopping and George has got mister Spacely. They're the Jetsons!
