Jet Set Willy: Jet Set Willy Ii
built 606 days ago
Both the original game and Jet Set Willy II were released for the BBC Micro, Acorn Electron, MSX, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64. The original BBC Micro release ... contained a bug which made it impossible to complete the game - though not the same bug as the Spectrum version.

Jet Set Willy, written in 1983 by Matthew Smith, was a cult platform game on the Sinclair Spectrum. Jet Set Willy II, the sequel, was originally an Amstrad CPC conversion of Jet Set Willy. Because of its new features — such as a larger map and moving platforms — JSW II was eventually converted back to the Spectrum. The Amstrad and Spectrum versions of JSW II are essentially identical. However, the BBC Micro version is different in several areas.

Jet Set Willy II is an expansion of the original JSW rather than a new game unto itself. Its map is primarily an expanded version of the original mansion, with only a few new original elements over its predecessor, several of which are based on rumored events in JSW that were in fact never programmed (such as being able to launch the titular ship in the screen called "The Yacht" and explore an island). In the ZX Spectrum version Willy is blasted from the Rocket Room into space, for which 33 rooms he dons a spacesuit.

Jet Set Willy II is a platform game for the ZX Spectrum, spread over many rooms. The Overview shows all the rooms at half size, with diagonal lines and a red floor to mimic the layout of the Cartography Room. The full-size map is divided into eight pages: The Central Map; The East Map; The West Map; The Map of the Sewers; Space Map; Map of the Teleport Zone; The Cartography Room; and The Central Cavern.

R. D. Foord's JSW Sprite Library contains various sprites from Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy, Jet Set Willy II, Dr. Jet Set Willy, and even adds some sprites of its own! Daniel Gromann has made all these sprites accessible to JSWED by transferring them into a non-playable JSW128 file.
