The film will be Andrzej Bartkowiak's fourth as director, having previously directed Jet Li in Romeo Must Die and Cradle 2 the Grave, and Steven Seagal in Exit Wounds. If that doesn't sound like much of a resume, Bartkowiak's record as a Cinematographer has somewhat greater credibility. Thirty two films, from Terms of Endearment in 1983, the Michael Douglas classic Falling Down, and a string of Nineties action flicks: Speed, Species, US Marshals and Lethal Weapon 4.

When his daughter is kidnapped and held in exchange for priceless diamonds, the leader of a crew of highly skilled urban thieves (DMX) forges an unlikely alliance with a Taiwanese Intelligence officer (Jet Li) to rescue her. Their race against the clock to find the precious stones ultimately unravels a plot to distribute a deadly new weapon of war.

Fortunately, even though the collaboration between the two never came to fruition, Li's name began appearing in the Hollywood trade papers and he soon found himself inundated with scripts and development deals. When the dust settled, he had to choose between Jean-Claude Van Damme's “Knock Off” or “Lethal Weapon 4.” Wisely, Li selected the latter where he capably played a villain and instantly proved that he was a star that Hollywood could work with.
