Recognized worldwide as an industry visionary, Jerry Yang is a key player in setting Yahoo!'s business strategy. Yang, a Taiwanese native who was raised in San Jose, CA, co-created the Yahoo! Internet navigational guide (www.yahoo.com) in April 1994 with David Filo, and co-founded Yahoo! Inc. in April 1995. Since that time, Yang has been instrumental in building Yahoo! into one of the most recognized brands associated with the Internet and a leading force in the new media industry.

Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang's second day on Capitol Hill was less pleasant than his first -- and no birthday candles this time, either. Gao Qinsheng, mother of imprisoned journalist Shi Tao, and Yu Lin, wife of jailed dissident Wang Xiaoning, railed against Yahoo for helping China's government silence their family members. This after Yang and Yahoo general counsel Michael Callahan apologized before Congress on Tuesday. Now how does Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang expect to create that “stronger culture of winning” that Yahoo so desperately needs with sad-sack pronouncements like those he made during a company conference in Half Moon Bay, Calif., yesterday? Being chief executive of Yahoo is “a lonely job,” said Yang. “It is a lonely job in the sense that you have to make some of the tough calls.”

Jerry Yang was born in Taiwan, a country in Asia. When he was ten, his family came to the United States. They settled in San Jose, California. Jerry Yang knew one English word when he came here — “shoe.” He worked hard in school and learned quickly. He went to college in California.
