Shoeshine, which starred Jerry and his son Ben Stiller, was nominated for an Academy Award in the 1988 Short Subject Category. Other film appearances include The Taking of Pelham One-Two-Three, Those Lips-Those Eyes, Airport '75, Nadine, The Ritz, The McGuffin, Hot Pursuit, Hairspray (original 1988 film) and The Pickle. He and Meara starred in the Joan Micklin Silver film, The Fish in the Bathtub. Other films include On the Line, Servicing Sara and Zoolander, (directed by and starring his son Ben Stiller). His starring role in The Independent opposite Jeaneane Garafolo garnered rave reviews nationwide. Jerry Stiller will next be seen in the Farrelly Brother's next film The Seven Day Itch (once again co-starring with Ben).

Jerry Stiller is the father of actor Ben Stiller (as everyone knows) and still is maintaining his acting carrer. He is best known as the father of Leah Remini's character as Carrie Spooner on The King of Queens as Arthur Spooner, and famously known as Frank Costanza, the father of George Costanza, on Seinfeld. Stiller is absolutely a funny guy who displays a serious yet silly attitude. He is a great co-star and guest star.

Later, Stiller directed the short comedy film Elvis Stories, which included bits with John Cusack, and the hilarious Mojo Nixon video "Elvis is Everywhere."SNL may have been short-lived, but it got him noticed by MTV folks, who gave him his own, similarly short-lived Ben Stiller Show (with Jeff Kahn) in 1990. Two years later, as a follow-up to In Living Color, Fox picked up The Ben Stiller Show,only to cancel it after one season. Stiller got his revenge by winning the Emmy for comedy writing.
