Jerry Jones

The signature feature of Jerry Jones’ new cathedral of football, scheduled to open in 2009, is an enormous two- sided television screen sixty yards wide, stretching from one 20 yard line to the other. The massive screens will be bordered by two smaller but still enormous screens facing each end zone. The cluster will hang 110 feet above the playing field and display images from the game below.

Jerry Jones is going to offer his craptastic programming for free, since basic cable subscribers that haven't opted for the "premium" package clearly don't want it? Otherwise, shut the Hell up, Jerry.

As the Dallas Cowboys destroyed the New York Giants to raise their record to 8-1, three of owner Jerry Jones' gutsiest projects -- QB Tony Romo, WR Terrell Owens, and DT Tank Johnson -- all shined. Hack gives the reader a taste of what life is like for each in their new role (Romo the superstar, Johnson the reclamation project, T.O. the afterthought). He has some nice detail on the troubled Johnson, but doesn't go deep enough on the others, especially Romo.

The timeliness of a piece about Cowboys owner Jerry Jones can be questioned, but Hoffer is writing about the future, not the present. Jones is still working on his $1 billion stadium, but when it opens in 2009 and hosts the Super Bowl in 2011, it may be the most profitable arena in sports. Hoffer spends too much time retelling old stories about Jones that everyone already knows, but he still provides an interesting look at what comes next for the former oilman and his beloved Boys.

"Jerry Jones is out there almost in near-hysteria about the NFL Network," Cohen said. "I think they're baffled that there hasn't been a fan uprising to be able to get these games."
