By all accounts Jeremy Mayfield is one heck of a nice guy and a solid competitor. Based on the truly heartfelt congratulations of his fellow drivers after the race you have to believe that this was as a popular of a win up and down pit road as it was with the fans. Now that he has broken through it is very easy to believe that Jeremy Mayfield can win many more races this year and continue to be a legitimate threat to win the Winston Cup Championship.

After a difficult departure from Evernham in August of 2006, Jeremy Mayfield landed with a fresh opportunity at Bill Davis Racing in the #36 for 2007. As a new team, they struggled to make races, and in October of 2007 Jeremy Mayfield left BDR for Haas/CNC. As a note, Jacques Villeneuve was hired last summer to replace Mayfield. Mayfield wasn’t actually released from BDR at the time, as they were looking into sponsorship possibilities for starting up another team.

For all of you concerned Jeremy Mayfield fans, it appears as if sponsorship is lining for the 2008 Sprint Cup season. He will be turning over a new leaf at Haas CNC Racing, so Haas Automation will likely sponsor the 70 and 66 cars for several races. Additionally, Atlas Copco Compressors will serve as an associate sponsor in 2008, and will appear on the hood for the June race at New Hampshire. It is possible that Atlas Copco will add races throughout the season.

Jeremy Mayfield was just a boy when he began to express an interest in going fast. At the ripe old age of four, Mayfield spent his time riding his bicycle in circles as quickly as he possibly could. A childhood paper route gave him the opportunity to perfect his style, as he would cycle through the neighborhood at breakneck speeds, preparing himself for bike races at a local track in his hometown of Owensboro, Ky. It wasn’t long before Mayfield turned his attention to four-wheeled competition. His first foray into the world of auto racing was behind the wheel of a go-kart.

Latest on the Mayfield-Evernham legal battle: Jeremy Mayfield's immediate legal challenge to the terms of his firing by Evernham Motorsports has been resolved. Mayfield, who was released Monday, filed the request for an injunction in North Carolina Superior Court in Iredell County. Whether he could have gotten in the #19 car Friday is unclear as Bill Elliott pracaticed and qualified at Watkins Glen International. There was a hearing on the injunction Friday in North Carolina, and the parties had agreed in principle to settle after the hearing, a Dodge spokesman confirmed Friday night. The two sides released a statement Saturday morning: "Jeremy Mayfield, Mayfield Motorsports, Inc., and Evernham Motorsports LLC announced that they have agreed to end their relationship effective immediately. The parties agree that it is in their mutual best interests to go in different directions and wish each other success in the future."
