Jeremy Mayfield: Races
built 636 days ago
Mayfield soon graduated to the Street Stock division at the original Kentucky Motor Speedway. He won so much in that class that his car was impounded (a rule of the division he was competing in), but Jeremy didn’t let that stop him. He would scurry back to his make shift garage at his mother’s home, build another car and show up the next weekend to race again. It was that determination that set the foundation of his success in every thing he raced.

Mayfield's #19 Dodge has become a staple on the racing scene. A former Kentucky Motor Speedway Rookie of the Year, Mayfield had one of his best years in 2000, winning the Napa Auto Parts 500 and the Pocono 500. His fans often respect him, though, for the way he worked up to his position, having previously been a crew chief and a fabricator before joining the Winston Cup Series.

It was Sadler Racing that gave Mayfield his first shot at NASCAR. In October 1993 he made his Cup debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway, finishing 29th. He started four races for Sadler the following year and made four more starts before hooking up with Cale Yarborough.
Mayfield’s 98.5% laps completed percentage ranks fourth among drivers who have competed in every race this year. Mayfield has finished 24 of 34 races on the lead lap, and he has only one DNF in 2005.

"I've been in this sport long enough to know that it takes time to bring a brand new car up to speed in what is probably the most competitive racing series in the world," Mayfield said. "When I made the decision to move here with an untested car and a sponsor completely unfamiliar with NASCAR, I knew it would be somewhat of a gamble."
