In 2002 Mayfield joined his current team, Evernham Motorsports. Mayfield has improved in the final point standings each year in the No. 19 Dodge, finishing 10th in 2004 and ninth in 2005.

Everyone seems to forget that Jeremy made the first two Chases, before Evernham gave his entire crew and crew chief to Kahne. Since then, he’s had a Toyota with a bankrupt sponsor and about a half-dozen crew chiefs of dubious ability. Give Jeremy a good car with decent sponsorship money , allow him time to establish communication with a knowledgable crew chief, and you’ll see him running up front again!
