Jeremy Mayfield, whom Ray Evernham said he terminated on Monday, was hoping to stall the firing by getting a temporary injunction Friday. The hearing was scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. in North Carolina Superior Court in Iredell County.

Their four-year relationship ended last week in an Iredell County courtroom, with Mayfield fighting over the final details of his severance after Evernham kicked him out of the No. 19 Dodge. Mayfield is just happy for a new opportunity. With Dave Skog as his new crew chief in 2008, expectations are high. The two were paired together at Evernham in 2002, so the adjustment period should be short.
