Jennifer Ann Connelly seemed born for the task. From the time she began appearing in Seventeen magazine, Jennifer stood out as an above-average beauty. Modeling quickly led to TV commercials which led to a casting director recommending her for the role of a young dancer in the gangster epic Once Upon a Time in America. Soon after she took roles in the Italian film Phenomena and the American film Seven Minutes in Heaven. But it wasn't until Jim Henson cast her in the David Bowie fantasy Labyrinth that Jennifer gained true notice.

Connelly starred in two films in 2003: Hulk and House of Sand and Fog. Hulk was something of a box office disappointment, but afforded Connelly the chance to work with noted director Ang Lee. House of Sand and Fog, based on the novel by Andre Dubus III, was reminiscent of much of her independent film work of the late 1990s. Connelly appeared in the 2005 horror film Dark Water, which was based on a Japanese film. In 2006, Connelly appeared in two films, both of which were nominated for multiple Academy Awards. She played a major role in an adaptation of the novel Little Children alongside Kate Winslet.

Jennifer celebrated her 12th birthday in Rome, on the set of Once Upon A Time In America. She loved it - it was far preferable to having her picture taken as she remained very reserved, even shy. So, when the opportunity arose to act once more in Italy, she said YES, despite the oddness of the role. And it was very odd, even judged by the crazy standards of Italian cinema. She was to play a girl who can communicate with insects, a gift that comes in handy when she enrols at a posh girls' school where the pupils are getting slaughtered one by one. The movie would climax with Jennifer almost drowning in a pit full of maggots and dead bodies.

Jennifer began acting properly in a phenomenally long, dramatic, epic film known as Once Upon a Time in Despondency. The film was so long half of it's length had to be fed to the rats who frequented the hulking sound stage established for the film that existed for the ten years it took to commit the colossus to film. Connelly generally spent the role exercising her superior command of language for an eleven year old to the rest of the juvenile cast members.
