Dahmer met Sears, a 24-year-old black male, at La Cage Aux Folles (a gay bar). He offered Sears money to be photographed. They went back to his grandmother’s house, had sex and Dahmer gave Sears a drink laced with sleeping pills. Dahmer strangled him, had sex with the corpse, and dismembered the body. After decapitating the corpse, he boiled the head, removed the skin and painted the skull gray.

By that time, Dahmer had conceived the bizarre notion of creating "zombies" who would be his live-in sex toys, obedient to his every whim. Instead of using voodoo, Jeffrey opted for a more direct approach, drilling holes in the selected victim's skull, then dribbling caustic liquids into the wounds in an effort to destroy the subject's conscious will. Needless to say, the weird approach to neurosurgery had a 100 percent failure rate, and none of Dahmer's favored "patients" survived.

Dahmer ... talks about his failures in the abductions. Some of his victims got away only to be returned to him, others escaped entirely, and sometimes he was the victim. He describes a time that he drank the drugged drink instead of the potential victim. Dahmer also tells of a time where he was drugged and was sexually assaulted with a candle when he woke up.

The explanation offered by Dahmer himself for his behavior was that he was attempting to remove the free will from his victims so that they would stay with him forever. Dahmer had experimented with removing sections of his living victims' skulls and pouring various chemicals into their brain cavities to try to create lobotomized zombies compliant to his wishes to fulfill his sexual desires.
