[W]hen the gossip was spread, Jean tried to do the job herself, with an overdose of pills. The baby, born white, had to be taken two months early by Caesarean, and because of Jean's overdose, lived only two days. The father of the dead baby was French writer and diplomat, Romain Gary, author of several successful novels and one of several men Jean married. Jean wanted to display the infant in a glass casket for the world to see that the child was white.

Seberg blamed the premature birth and subsequent death of her second child on the FBI story. Her husband Gary stated, "Jean became psychotic after that," and he believed that the FBI rumors had driven her to suicide.

Though she survived, Jean went into labour prematurely resulting in her child dieing two days after the birth. Needless to say, all the accusations were completely fabricated by the FBI for political reasons.
