An accomplished tap dancer, Cassel was befriended by Gene Kelly who cast him as an extra in 1957's "The Happy Road." Cassel made his name in light comedy, working on many occasions with director Philippe De Broca, whose "The Lovers" (1960) put the insouciant young man on the map.

Ludovic Régnier hires Jean-Pierre Cassel to whom he promises a job as a director if he manages to find evidence against Hélène that would discredit her in front of the judge. So Cassel ... moves into the guest house and imagines a machiavelic scheme in order to implicate Hélène in a fraud. But everything goes wrong and the infortunate Cassel must improvize a new plan.

The new millennium saw Cassel's career shift into high gear with a rigorous filming schedule on both sides of the Atlantic, appearing in Birthday Girl opposite Nicole Kidman, Shrek, the notorious Irreversible, The Crimson Rivers (2000), and The Reckoning. But Cassel's status as a cool actor was solidified in 2004 when he was recruited to play the French counterpart to Hollywood A-listers George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in Steven Soderbergh's silver screen celebfest, Ocean's Twelve.
