After voicing the part of a gallic Robin Hood in Shrek, Cassel upped the violence stakes once more from La Haine in the brutal Irreversible, which he co-produced. Playing in reverse order, the film became infamous for its boundary-pushing portrayal of a vicious assault. But it was slammed by some critics as unnecessarily graphic.
