Jay-Z might be starting his own label! He ... might be turning into a blonde-haired, blue-eyed teen-pop star. "Now we hear Jay has been huddling with Reid's rival, Warner Music Group head Lyor Cohen, to talk about starting his own label - tentatively called the Carter Music Group. (Jay's real name is Aaron Carter.)" One can only imagine what kind of half-repressed horror stories about his days with Lou Pearlman are keeping Mr. Carter up at night. Let them out, Jay. For B's sake.

Jay-Z is a part-owner of the New Jersey Nets, Nelly has a stake in the Charlotte Bobcats and Usher has invested in the Cleveland Cavaliers. Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal and Ron Artest have either dropped rap discs or started their own record labels. O’Neal even went platinum with his 2003 LP “Shaq Diesel.” Through his G-Unit business, 50 Cent is a brand in his own right. He has a line of vitamin water, called Formula 50, his own video game, and a deal with Reebok.
This Madison Square Garden performance is a continuation of the many doors that Jay-Z has opened for other artists throughout his career. The entrepreneur, philanthropist and spokesman has been the first in many things.

In 1999, Jay-Z co-founded the urban clothing brand Rocawear with Roc-A-Fella Records partners Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke.[26] Rocawear has clothing lines and accessories for men, women and children. The line was taken over by Jay-Z in early 2006 following a falling out with co-founder Damon Dash.
Jay-Z has navigated a variety of situations brilliantly for more than twenty years. In the Eighties, when crack was dominating America's inner cities, Shawn Carter was a teenage street entrepreneur selling crack and other drugs. In his twenties, he escaped the street and turned his business skills to the world of hip-hop. When no label would sign him, he co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records in order to release his first album. As hip-hop moved into the Get Big Money era and rappers maximized their earning potential by diversifying into clothes, movies and bottled water, Jay-Z became one of hip-hop's most successful entrepreneurs. "Every black kid in America looks up to Jay as a role model," says Kanye West.
Since 1995, Jay-Z has dominated the rap industry and set the trends for a generation. Ten summers later, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has come to personify the new “American Dream” for millions the world over. Named President and CEO of Def Jam Recordings, in 2005, he is the founder and chairman of Rocawear, co -owner of the NJ Nets, 40/40 Sports Clubs and co-owner of skin care and beauty line Carol’s Daughter. Jay-Z became the first non-athlete to enter into a major footwear co-venture with his S. Carter line for Reebok and in addition, continues his philanthropic work through his Water For Life initiative Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. Over his career, the multiple award winner has sold over 40 million albums and sold out arenas the world over.
