Aside from his film career, Jared Leto is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and sole songwriter of the band 30 Seconds to Mars along with his brother, Shannon Leto, on drums. They started the band in 1998 and have released two albums: their eponymous debut 30 Seconds to Mars and 2005's A Beautiful Lie. They began opening for other bands and started their first ever headlining tour, Forever Night Never Day, in March of 2006. In May 2007, they started touring Europe, as the opening act for Linkin Park.

Jared Leto always knew he wanted to work in a creative field. Born in Bossier City, Louisiana, he showed an enterprising and self-reliant streak from an early age. At 12, he took his first job, washing dishes at a barbecue stand in Virginia. He became a doorman at the age of 16. Ultimately, he enrolled at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia to study painting before transferring to the School of Visual Arts in New York. He moved to Los Angeles from New York in 1992 to pursue a career in acting.

In Bossier City, Louisiana, Jared Leto was born on December 26, 1972. His parents divorced when he was a child, leaving him in the care of his mother, Constance. This separation led to a traveling life with young Jared moving from his native Louisiana to different cities in Colorado, Virginia, Wyoming and Haiti. In 1992, when he was 20, Jared relocated to Los Angeles to launch a career in acting.
