Japanese Models: American Liftback
built 653 days ago
The 3K engine was used in certain markets and later the 4K, while most Japanese and American models had the bigger 2T engine. A "Toyoglide" 2/3-speed automatic transmission was added as well as a four-speed and five-speed manual transmission, driving to the rear wheels. A three-door "liftback" (E50) and sports coupé (E51) was added in 1976. The E40 and E60 series were assigned to the Sprinter variants.
One of the strongest characteristics of the model American business person is their speed to action, while for the typical Japanese business person it is a care for analysis and planning. If combined, these two strong points could lead to a new, more powerful and global model. Mr. Nakamura hopes to address this fundamental issue through the exploration of the following topics:

On November 17, popular Japanese lingerie company Peach John will open a shop within the flagship Shinjuku branch of esteemed department store Isetan. In the last decade, PJ has made a dramatic transformation from a small outfit importing American bras to a catalog sales giant with 20 locations in brick-and-mortar stores. Moving up to Isetan seems like a natural progression for the burgeoning brand, but this will not be just "another store." The language of Peach John’s latest venture hints at a new direction for the company, and more broadly, an intriguing trend in Japanese marketing.
This range had different front and rear ends to the Japanese models, though the sides and interior remained mostly the same. It can be distinguished by the round headlights and mesh grille. As a result, a sporting model with a six-speed gearbox was offered. The European three door hatchback is the base for the Corolla World Rally Car (WRC). In Australia the Corolla liftback is called Seca. Grades for sedan and Seca are Ascent, Conquest, and Ultima.
There were five models manufactured in the Japanese range (all right-hand drive). As stated previously, any cars that you see in the UK or Australia will probably be from the Japanese market. Some American models have found their way to mainland Europe where they drive on the right. USA cars will feature a model number on the rear-right hand side instead of the word 'Soarer', and will of course be left-hand drive. The Japanese models were as follows:

The Liftback was introduced for Japanese market in April 1973, but not until 1976 for North America. Models for home market Liftback were 1600ST, 1600GT (TA27), 2000ST, and 2000GT (RA25 and RA28). The American Liftback is a GT (RA29) with a 2.2 liter 20R engine. All the Liftback models, which are commonly referred to as the 'Mustang' shape, have flat noses. Although there is no "B" pillar in the Liftback, the rear windows do not roll down (as they do in the hardtop coupe).
