Japanese: Standard Japanese
built 776 days ago
Japanese is the de facto official language of Japan, which is the only country to have Japanese as an official working language. There is a form of the language considered standard: hyōjungo
Japanese Man Standard Japanese is based on but is not identical to the Tokyo dialect. It is not uniformly spoken across Japan. Rather, there are different versions of standard Japanese that are influenced by the local varieties. Many people speak their local dialect in addition to Standard Japanese.

Recently, Standard Japanese has become prevalent nationwide (including portions of the Ryūkyū islands like Okinawa) due not only to television and radio, but ... to increased mobility within Japan due to its system of roads, railways, and airports. Young people usually speak their local dialect and the standard language, though in most cases, the local dialect is influenced by the standard, and regional versions of "standard" Japanese have local-dialect influence.
Japanese Children Two forms of the language are considered standard: hyojungo, or Standard Japanese, and kyotsugo, or the common language. Hyojungo is taught in schools and used on television and in official communications. Standard Japanese can ... be divided into bungo 'literary language,' and kogo 'oral language.' The two varieties differ in grammar and vocabulary. Bungo was the main written form of Japanese until the late 1940s and is still relevant today for historians, literary scholars and lawyers. Kogo is mostly used today.

Although these are real Japanese lessons, they're not necessarily good ones. They are... free, and they should be a lot more fun than the standard "This is a Pen." and "My name is Smith." stuff. If you're serious about learning Japanese, you should probably go take a class at your local community college, or at least buy a professional book.
