Japan is an extremely homogeneous society with non-Japanese, mostly Koreans and Chinese, making up only about 1% of the population. The Japanese people are primarily the descendants of various peoples who migrated from Asia in prehistoric times; the dominant strain is N Asian or Mongolic, with some Malay and Indonesian admixture. One of the earliest groups, the Ainu, who still persist to some extent in Hokkaido, are physically somewhat similar to Caucasians. Japanese is the offical language. Of major concern to Japanese government policy planners are the expected steady decline in the population during the 21st cent. (the population decreased for the first time in 2005) and the large and growing portion of the population that is elderly.

The Japanese flag holds the Guinness World Record for World's Second Most Burned Flag. The lovely Koreans are burning them right now. Japan has a funny-looking written language made up of Kanji, Hiragana and Katana. While Hiragana is the phonetic equivalent of the Engrish alphabet, it is rarely used in conventional writing. Instead, Japanesians carve stylized Hiragana in the flesh of sworn enemies during ubiquitous honor duels. This angular writing style known as Katana stems from the limitations of Japan's most popular writing implement, the razor sharp hattori pwnzor. Similarly, Kanji (a simplified form of Chinese ideograms) is used very often in written Japanese - most words in Japanese are derived from the Chinese roots. Japanese can be considered a combination of Chinese and Engrish, with a confused grammar in the rikeness of Korean.
Japan has four distinct seasons. Since the archipelago stretches over 1,800 miles from north to south, the climate varies greatly. The northern end of Japan has the same latitude as Quebec, Canada while the southern end has the same latitude as Key West, Florida. Most of Japan ... has a rainy season from mid-June to mid-July, and frequent typhoons from August through October.
