Japan is a riddle of contradictions. It is as much about Zen, Kabuki, Sumo, and Geisha as it is about Sony, Toyota, and Panasonic. It is a hyper-modern sprawling metropolis; it is Mt. Fuji peering through the clouds over miles and miles of autumn-burnt parklands. It is a maze of metal and glass skyrises; it is a narrow alleyway with wooden homes with dragon-tiled roofs.

The history of Japan is rich, and contains samurai as well as ninja. Mt. Fuji and geisha deserve a mention, too. Through paintings, written records, and other such artifacts from yesteryear, historians have been able to piece together what Japanese life may have been like in the past. Amusingly, most of it consists of tentacle porn and bukkake.

Note: Another symbol of Japan is Fujiyama... called Mount Fuji, a volcano whose symmetrical snow-capped peak has been the object of countless pilgrimages, poems, and paintings. It has not erupted since 1707.
