January 2007 precipitation for the contiguous U.S. was near average, with sharply contrasting conditions across the country. Near-average to drier-than-average conditions occurred along much of the East Coast, Southeast, Upper Midwest and the northern High Plains to the Pacific Northwest. Precipitation was above average from southern Texas and New Mexico to the Midwest and parts of the Northeast, while much-drier-than-average conditions were present in parts of the Intermountain West and California.

CME foreign exchange volume in January averaged 494,000 per day, up 29 percent compared with the year-ago period. Electronic foreign exchange volume averaged 450,000 contracts per day, up 35 percent compared with January 2006.

DETROIT, March 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In January, the Detroit Area Business Activity Index rebounded three points to 116, partially reversing a five point drop in December. After rising sharply in 2003, the index has trended sideways in 2004 and early 2005. The January 2005 reading for the index was 1 point above the average for all of 2004.

Same-restaurant sales at Olive Garden were up approximately 4% to 5% for fiscal January, which reflected an increase of approximately 3% in guest counts and a 1% to 2% increase in check average. The check average increase was due to a 0% to 1% decrease in menu mix changes and an approximate 2% increase in pricing. Last year, Olive Garden had an increase of 8% to 9% in same-restaurant sales during fiscal January.
