According to newspaper articles from the time, Reno received funding to capture the creature from the Florida Institute of Research for Large Animals and Fish (FITRLAF). After 14 months of searching and showing no results funding was pulled Reno was back to searching on her own. But she wouldn't need to search much longer since the discovery of the Skunkape was right around the corner.

Branch Davidian complex April 19, 1993, the day of the ATF's final assault Reno ran for Governor of Florida in 2002, but lost in the Democratic primary to Bill McBride. Voting problems arose in the election, and she did not concede defeat until a week later. She has since retired from public life but frequently makes guest appearances for Democratic and other political causes.
Reno's LawNet recapitulates a controversial White House proposal issued last year called FIDNET, which was roundly denounced by libertarian groups as an Orwellian initiative with great potential for government abuse of civilian privacy and legal rights. Reno would beg to differ. LawNet will address privacy issues, and actually protect online consumers from invasions like the recent CD Universe extortion case, she promised.
Reno was fishing at the lake like she did every Tuesday when she spotted the 7 foot tall creature. Even thought she had no equipment to capture the creature, the 6' 4" Reno pursued the Skunkape deep into the swamps of the Florida Everglades.

Next year's Florida gubernatorial election--which could pit presidential brother and current GOP Governor Jeb Bush against former Attorney General Janet Reno--is developing into the marquee melee of the midterm elections. The Democrats are already framing the contest as a referendum on the policies of George W. Bush and as a possible harbinger of 2004.

Gary Aldrich in Unlimited Access revealed that Reno did not have the traditional background check prior to her nomination. THAT is Unprecedented. When a certain Florida official was asked why Reno had never been gifted a judgeship, the response was "... come on, Janet could never pass the background check."
