According to the British newspaper The Sun, Janet Jackson has taken a page from the book of Madonna and Jennifer Lopez with her very specific demands. When Janet was scheduled to appear on "Capitol Breakfast" in England recently she sent one of her minions ahead of her to have a bottle of water from a spring in Fiji (not to be confused with Fiji brand water) placed in the refrigerator so that it would be chilled before she arrived. While that doesn't seem that bad, it was when she demanded the water be a certain temperature and insisted that the staff use a thermometer to ensure the temperature was correct that the demand seemed to get out of hand.

By 1976, the Jackson family’s Vegas act had caught the attention of CBS president Fred Silverman. The network was desperately trying to find a new variety act to replace the recently ended Sonny & Cher Show, since ABC had a competing show featuring Donny and Marie Osmond. Debuting on June 16, 1976, The Jacksons show became the first African-American family to have a variety show on TV. The show lasted only two seasons and was canceled in 1977.

It's a potpourri of Janet Jackson--both old and new school. On her 1993/1994 tour, it's pretty clear Ms. Jackson hadn't reached full-fledged divahood. She was still dealing with generic pop star problems like snakes in the audience and "fish ice" backstage. By 2001, Janet was able to focus on things more worthy of her time, like tulips, roses, gardenias, and lilies.

CBS cancelled its invitation to Jackson to perform at the 2004 Grammy Awards ceremony. The FCC tightened up restrictions on lewd content on television and the entertainment industry suffered a major backlash. Programs that once pushed the envelope began eliminating even mildly coarse language from their broadcasts. Some performers were penalized for things they had gotten away with previously. Many people directly blamed Jackson for this new wave of censorship.
