Jane Frazee

By the age of six, Jane Frazee was appearing in a vaudeville act with her sister. Eventually, the act had great success on radio, and this landed Frazee and her sister screen tests at Universal. Production executives immediately signed the talented girl but rejected her sister. Although Frazee was blessed with a good singing voice, acting talent, and beauty, she never really found the success in films she deserved. In the early 1940s, Frazee married silent screen actor Glenn Tryon, who was nearly 30 years her senior, but the married quickly dissolved. Frazee went into real estate in the 1950s and eventually left the film industry.

Jane Frazee made her starring film debut in the Republic B-plus musical Melody and Moonlight. The plot is motivated by the show-biz aspirations of bellboy Danny O'Brien (Johnny Downs). With the help of a wealthy chiropodist (Jerry Colonna), O'Brien not only gets to star on a big-time radio show, but ... sprinkles stardust upon his sweetheart Kay Barnett (Jane Frazee)-who, unbeknownst to everyone but the audience, is the daughter of the show's sponsor. Unable to secure the services of Bob Hope, Republic did the next best thing by hiring two of Hope's funniest stooges, Jerry Colonna and Vera Vague (aka Barbara Jo Allen). Jane Frazee's excellent showing in Melody and Moonlight landed her a contract with Universal; by the end of the 1940s, however, she was back at Republic as Roy Rogers' leading lady. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

After Alan disappears, permanently, Jane misleads her brother's sister and convinces the police she's done nothing wrong. Then Danny gets his with a belt of poison in his scotch. The sister's suspicions are met with an understanding smile. When a mysterious stranger, Don Blake (Don DeFore), shows up... Jane quickly sees that Blake is not the kind of guy who would be sympathetic to Jane's tales of growing up. Jane's legs don't seem to do much for him, either. It's not long before Blake is prodding, poking and hooking up with the sister to ask questions.
