Jane Alexander is a four-time Oscar nominee for the films Testament, Kramer vs. Kramer, All the President’s Men, and The Great White Hope. Her distinguished career has included more than 50 screen roles and 100 stage roles, and she received the Emmy Award for "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie" last year for her portrayal of Sara Roosevelt in HBO’s Warm Springs. Author of Command Performance: An Actress in the Theater of Politics, documenting her tenure as chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts from 1993 to 1997, she continues her political career as Commissioner of Parks for the Taconic Region, in New York State.

Jane Alexander made her Broadway debut in 1963, and since then has appeared in nearly two dozen Broadway and Off Broadway productions and in dozens of TV and film roles. Her honors include a Tony Award for her work in The Great White Hope (1969); five Obie Awards; four Academy Award nominations; one Emmy Award and five Emmy nominations for her work in television. Alexander holds honorary doctorates from 11 colleges and universities in the U.S. She joins FSU's School of Theatre as an Eppes Professor this spring.

Jane Alexander’s career really took off in the late 1960s with her Broadway debut in the original drama The Great White Hope co-starring James Earl Jones. The play explored life of black boxer Jack Jefferson (played by Jones) and the racial issues surrounding his relationship with a white woman, Eleanor Bachman, played by Alexander. She won the 1969 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play, and was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actress in 1970, after reprising her role for the film version.
