Jamiroquai's buffalo man from the You Give Me Something single cover "Ten years and five albums on Jamiroquai continue their trademark future disco sound to complete one hell of a Funk Odyssey. But despite the groovy feel and catchy quality of this album, there is no new musical territory covered here. The familiarity of frontman Jason Kay's vocals ring throughout, matched by the expected polished and watered-down disco backing. Jamiroquai are certainly not aiming to break any boundaries but deliver a fun collection of tunes."

Jamiroquai Jamiroquai consists of Jay Kay (on vocals), Stuart Zender (on bass), Derrick McKenzie (on drums), Toby Smith (on keyboards), and Wallis Buchanan. The leader of Jamiroquai, Jay Kay, grew up around music with a jazz singing mother. In 1992, Kay formed Jamiroquai and soon was heard in clubs around England and with their first single "When You Gonna Learn?" The band had begun taking England by storm with their mix of funk, dance, soul, and hip hop rhythms.
What does Jamiroquai mean? The name Jamiroquai is a conglomeration of the word "jam" and the name of the Native American peoples, the Iroquois, indigenous to central and eastern United States and Canada. What is the 'buffalo man' image? The so-called "buffalo man" logo, which Jay sketched one day of himself in silhouette, toes turned out beneath flares/bellbottoms and trademark buffalo hat set at an endearing angle, has appeared on all tracks somewhere on either its packaging or actual disc. Who are the members of Jamiroquai? Jamiroquai consists of a number of "core" bandmembers and then a number of other session musicians who perform/play live with the band.
Unique funk pop singer Jason Kay, aka Jamiroquai became huge in the the U.K. dance scene with the hot single ""When You Gonna Learn?” on Acid Jazz Records. Jamiroquai is well known for its unique sound and funky style. Collectively known as Jamiroquai members bassist Stuart Zender, key board player Toby Smith, drummer Derrick McKenzie, and vibes player Wallis Buchanan became successful in the US ... and went on to release “Return of the Space Cowboy” in 1995 which went platinum. Other succesful albums followed such as “Traveling Without Moving”, Synkronized (1999) and “A Funk Odyssey” (2002).
In the liner notes to Emergency on Planet Earth, Jay Kay writes that the name Jamiroquai is put forth to the Iroquois and other Native American peoples "with the utmost respect to all of you because I know you are right." The value placed on natural law and the earth in this message from Jay would seem to grow out of his admiration of the cultures of the Iroquois and other Native American peoples. On the track "Manifest Destiny," from the band's second album, The Return of the Space Cowboy, Jay reflects upon the more than four centuries of violent, rapacious subjugation of the Native American peoples, expressing a profound sadness and attempting to come to terms with "the shame of my ancestry."
