James Bond: Agent
built 233 days ago
James Bond, Agent 007, would be proud. According to a new survey conducted by ICR Survey Research for Ogilvy Public Relations, 20.4 percent of Americans surveyed believe the first decade of the new millennium should be referred to as "The Double O's." The poll involved a phone survey of a sample of 318 people from December 21 through December 28, 1999. "The 2 K's" was a close second at 19.8 percent, a statistical dead heat.
Nine years later, Bond arrives in Monte Carlo to follow Xenia Onatopp, a suspected member of the Janus crime syndicate, who has formed a suspicious relationship with a British Navy admiral. That night, she murders the admiral to allow Ourumov to steal his identity. The next day, she and Ourumov (now a Russian general) use the admirals credentials to access and steal a prototype French Tiger helicopter that can withstand an EMP, flying it to a bunker in Severnaya, where they massacre the staff and steal the control disk for the secret GoldenEye satellite weapon. The two program Goldeneye to target and destroy the complex with an electromagnetic pulse, while they escape with traitor programmer Boris Grishenko, another Janus operative. Natalya Simonova, the lone survivor and witness to the massacre, later escapes from the ruins and arranges to meet Grishenko in St. Petersburg, where he betrays her to Janus agents.
At the age of 38, Bond was promoted to 00 status. The covert 00 Branch of MI6 is the elite of the Secret Intelligence Service. These 'double-O' agents have proven themselves capable enough in the field to be entrusted with the license to kill -- the authorization to, at their own discretion, commit assassination and acts that might be otherwise considered murder in order to complete their missions, without having to seek permission from headquarters first. Bond holds code number "007."
