With the two-live V6 no longer available, potential Jaguar X-Type owners have a choice of four engines. The 2.5- and three-litre V6s (the latter only found with the top of the range Sovereign) have plenty of torque and give the relatively small car great performance. The diesels, a 128bhp two-litre and a 152bhp 2.2-litre, are very refined, and the latter has huge amounts of pulling power.

The Chrysler Pacifica and the Jaguar X-Type have about similar tires. With its tighter turning circle, the X-Type is definitely sprier than the Chrysler Pacifica, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; on the flip side, remember that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

The Jaguar X-Type model range lies within the price bracket of £21,500 - £31,800. The X-Type has been awarded a four star NCAP crash test rating by the European New Car Assessment Programme out of a possible five stars. Based on this NCAP rating the X-Type fairs fairly well in an accident having been given a high result. Jaguar X-Type insurance groups start at group 13 and rise to group 16. Base models are above average to insure, whilst the higher specification cars are fairly expensive to insure.

The Jaguar X-Type comes in a sedan or sportwagon. It has standard all-wheel drive, 16-inch alloy wheels, anti-lock brakes, and dynamic stability control. It seats five people in its Connolly leather interior with wood veneer or carbon-fiber trim. It is powered by a 227 hp 3.0-liter V-6 that is controlled by a five-speed automatic transmission. The sportwagon differs from the sedan because it has different rear doors and a unique roof. Its rear window can be opened and a moonroof is standard.

The Jaguar X-Type's engine is markedly smaller than the Chrysler Pacifica's. Note that a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder; ... smaller engines are often cheaper to fix. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the Pacifica is considerably more powerful than the Jaguar.
