Jadakiss: Ruff Ryders
built 171 days ago
Ruff Ryders/Interscope artist Jadakiss is receiving a lot of attention for his single "Why?," featured on his new album, "Kiss of Death." The song questions President Bush's involvement in the events of Sept. 11, 2001, with the lyric "Why did Bush knock down the Towers?" The line has prompted some radio stations to edit the track. According to sources at MTV, the "Why?" video was serviced to the network without the lyric.

Jadakiss (born Jason Phillips) became a member of the Ruff Ryders in 1999. Five years earlier, he joined the LOX (who started their saga as a group called the Warlocks) and has remained a member of both groups since.
Jadakiss, known as Mr. Raspy for his unique lyrical sound, is considered pound-for-pound one of top artists in the game. Kiss reigns from Yonkers, NY and is part of the Lox, D-Block, & Ruff Ryders family. Stay in touch with his flow right herre.

With Biggie dead, Jay-Z “retired” and 50 Cent and Nas holed up in their studios, it’s a ripe moment for Jadakiss, the would-be king of New York. Since 1998, the longtime member of the Lox and the Ruff Ryders has been better suited to crews and cameos than solo stardom — when he and Jay-Z teetered on the verge of a feud three years back, there was little doubt who would come out on top. On his second solo LP, though, Jadakiss has grown into a terrific MC: In a voice that perfectly balances plushness and grit, he reels off threats and insults, navigates thickets of internal rhymes and boasts about everything from his stock portfolio to his strategy for avoiding incarceration (“I’m a goddamned raging bull,” he raps on the jaunty “Bring You Down,” “stay out of jail by just telling myself the cage is full”). Kiss of Death isn’t watertight, but it’s packed with inventive beats by Kanye West, the Neptunes and Red Spyda (whose fierce snare-and-bass loop propels the title track), and Jadakiss’s flow is impeccable throughout. Another record like this one just might be what it takes to lure Jay-Z out of retirement.
