built 138 days ago
Jacques-Yves Cousteau was a man revered by a whole generation as an ecologist, conservationist, and protector of the Earth’s oceans. To the people who watched his programs, he brought fascination, wonder and a sense of awe. He taught them how to protect the world and enlightened them about the mysteries of the deep, while exploring new depths and places day-in and day-out. His mere name brought a smile to the public and from them, Jacques Cousteau was given life’s greatest fulfillment of knowing he did all he could at whatever task confronted him. He fought illness, disasters, lack of money, and even the death of his son to bring viewers a message, and for that, he was admired by all for his courage.

World-renowned environmentalist Jacques-Yves Cousteau received the World Ecology Award on March 17, 1992 from the International Center for Tropical Ecology at UM-St. Louis. For more than 50 years, Cousteau explored the earth's seas, observing marine life. Originally, his life's work was devoted to observing and recording the vitality of the living sea while commenting occasionally on our relationship to it. Over the years... he became increasingly aware of a deterioration in the ocean quality and a reduction in the abundance of marine life. Because of his knowledge of the immediate danger to mankind, Cousteau created The Cousteau Society in September 1973. The organization is dedicated to the protection and improvement of life.
