Jackie Stewart: Sir Jackie Stewart
built 649 days ago
Jackie Stewart is one of the most legendary motor car racers. He's a 27-time Grand Prix winner and 3-time Formula One World Champion. When he was racing in the 60s & 70s, the statistics showed that any driver who tried to stick it out for longer than 5 years would end up dead. Jackie was almost killed in 1966. But he survived and fought for better safety standards. Today, Formula One is a safer sport thanks to Sir Jackie Stewart.

Joining the Big Three were their wives and two other world-class sportsmen and Rolex ambassadors from the same era, the Grand Prix racing champion Sir Jackie Stewart and the Olympic and World Cup champion skier Jean-Claude Killy. They were all presented gold Rolex GMT Master II watches to mark the occasion.
Dismissed as a failure in his youth, Sir Jackie Stewart didn’t discover he was dyslexic until his early 40s. Now he is one of the most high-profile international spokespersons on the condition. In a powerful interview, the three times Formula One world champion and businessman talks to Alan Taylor
Sir John Young Stewart was born on 11 June 1939 in West Dunbartonshire. Stewart's interest in cars was piqued at an early age as his family owned Dumbuck Garage in Milton. His father had previously been a motorcycle racer and his brother Jimmy was an increasingly popular race car driver. In 1953 he competed in the British Grand Prix with team Ecuri Ecosse. Although his parents discouraged their sons from racing after Jimmy was injured, Jackie accepted an offer by Barry Filer to test his cars at Oulton Park. During the test runs Jackie Stewart left a major impression on the spectators.

Sir Jackie enjoyed an unfamiliar mount at the 'Festival of Speed' in Goodwood in July 2006. Nico Rosberg, Williams' 21-year-old rookie of 2006, sat awkwardly in the Matra MS10, which in 1968 and '69 was raced by Sir Jackie. Jackie, then, took the wheel of the FW27, which last year blasted around GP circuits in the hands of Mark Webber. At the top of the hill, the 67-year-old ex-champion stalled. (edit)
