Smithsonian officials unveiled an exhibit honoring Robinson this week at the National Museum of American History. The exhibit opened a day after Tiger Woods won the Masters golf tournament, becoming the first African-American to win a major golf tournament.

Two years later, Jackie won the Most Valuable Player award for the National League. He would win his only championship ring when the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees in the 1955 World Series. After the 1956 season, Robinson's contract was sold by the Dodgers to the New York Giants. Rather than report to the Giants, Robinson chose to retire at age 37.

Following his baseball career, Jackie became a businessman, a civil rights activist, and a father of three children. He worked for the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), and had contact with many leaders in government and the civil rights movement, such as MartinLutherKing, Jr., Malcolm X, Nelson Rockefeller, and John F.Kennedy. In his eleven seasons, Robinson helped the Dodgers win six National League pennants, culminating with the World Series championship against the Yankees in 1955. In 1962, five years after his retirement, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The parkway passes the cemetery in Cypress Hills where Robinson was buried in 1972.

A statue of Robinson is now located on the north enterence to the ballpark. On October 22, 1998, the stadium was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. This property is part of the Daytona Beach Multiple Property Submission, a Multiple Property Submission to the National Register.

According to Anderson Robinson had been voted Rookie of the Year in 1947. He became the Dodger's leader. In his ten seasons they won six National League pennants in 1947,49,52,53,55 and 56. In 1949 when he batted .342 to win the league title and drove in 124 runs he was voted the league's Most Valuable Player award.
