Jack Nicklaus had an unusual playing style, combining being one of the greatest putters of all-time with being the longest hitter on the tour during his prime. He popularized the "power fade," which was his characteristic ball flight. He was ... known as a conservative player at times, only going for broke when he needed to. This was especially apparent on the green. He would be less aggressive and make sure of an easy two-putt.[23]

Jack Nicklaus photo The innumerable achievements and contributions of Jack Nicklaus to the game of golf will insure his place in history as the greatest golfer of all time. ‘The Golden Bear’ has the record to prove it. Jack’s father started him golfing at the age of ten, and he soon became an accomplished amateur. Nicklaus’ role model at that time was the great Bobby Jones, who never turned professional. In 1959, Jack won his first prestigious tournament, the U.S. Amateur. After winning again in 1961, he decided to turn pro. Soon afterwards, Jack won the 1962 U.S. Open. Arnold Palmer was the ‘king’ of golf at that time and his popularity was huge.
