Jack Black Jack Black was born in Santa Monica, California, and attended the University of California at Los Angeles. While at UCLA, he was a member of Tim Robbins's acting troupe and it was through this collaboration that led to his 1992 film debut in Bob Roberts (1992). Although he was just a background voice in his first film, Jack's appearances in such television shows as "The X Files" (1993), his breakthrough performance in High Fidelity (2000), and his rock-comedy band Tenacious D have created an ever-growing cult following.

Born the son of two NASA scientists (they both worked on the Hubble Telescope), Black was an eccentric attention-eating machine. He realized at an early age that he liked to perform and pursued this throughÊstage as both an actor and singer. He actually started his acting career in a stage play, directed by Robbins, called Carnage. From there, he received minor roles in a slew of movies, starting with Bob Roberts. In the meantime, he and Kyle Gass met each other around 1994 while working together in a comedy troupe. Though they didn't like each other at first, they quickly became friends and discovered that they, together, had the ability do something that not many others can do: Move you.
This saw Black delivering drama at its highest level. The same year would see him score points when producing something very different. With Tenacious D, Black has been causing a stir on the comedy circuit and the show had been seen by David Cross and Bob Odenkirk, who'd written for the ill-fated Ben Stiller Show then taken to performing live as a duo. Now they were putting together a perverse, surreal and often controversial TV sketch show along the lines of Monty Python and Kids In The Hall, to be called Mr Show. Jack and Kyle would join for the first season, playing as Tenacious D and various other characters. Their cult was growing.

He got his professional start on the stage, appearing in "Tim Robbins"' production of Carnage at the 1989 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He would go on to collaborate with Robbins throughout his career, making his screen debut in the director's 1992 political satire "Bob Roberts" and appearing in Robbins' "Dead Man Walking" (1995) and "Cradle Will Rock" (1999).
Tropic Thunder is a movie starring Jack Black and Ben Stiller. Originally a black actor was cast for a role but he dropped out and they replaced him with…..Robert Downey, Jr. Which would be fine except they didn’t change the race of the character in the movie. So Downey, who is obviously white, is playing a black man.
