Shortly after midnight, Jack's daughter Kim snuck out of the house. Jack and his wife Teri were handling the situation, when Jack was called into work. Jack was forced to leave and after he arrived at CTU, he learned that there was a possible assassination attempt on Senator David Palmer (a Presidential candidate). As the Special Agent in Charge of CTU, Jack was put in charge of the investigation. He ... learned from Richard Walsh that there is a mole inside CTU.

Once upon a time there was a poor widow who lived in a little cottage with her only son Jack. Jack was a giddy, thoughtless boy, but very kind hearted and affectionate. There had been a hard winter, and after it the poor woman had suffered from fever and ague. Jack did no work as yet, and by degrees they grew dreadfully poor.

Juliet woke up Jack in his tent to have a heart-to-heart talk with him. She told him that his friends' distrust of her was justified; she was still working for Ben in order to let him know which women at the beach camp were pregnant, so he could take them. Jack questioned her motives, as she had wanted to get on the submarine so badly, and Juliet's answer was that she didn't get off; she was still there. She described to Jack of having seen Sun's baby inside of her, and that she was tired of living Ben's dream.
