Six months after the events of Day 2, a new terrorist threat introduced Jack to Chase Edmunds, and the two found they worked well together. Kim was kidnapped during the course of the day, but Jack rescued her - only to have girlfriend Kate Warner taken as well. He killed Peter Madsen, who kidnapped Kim, and then took off after Max. After a firefight on a yacht, Kate was safe, and Chase and Tony Almeida took a wounded Jack to the hospital.

Kate drugs Jack in order to get him to sleep. When he awakens, the key to the guns is missing. His suspicions fall upon Locke, and he, Kate and Sayid enter the jungle to find Shannon holding Locke at gunpoint. The next day, Sayid takes Jack to the hatch, discovered by Locke. When Rousseau arrives on the beach, she takes Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley and Arzt to the Black Rock, in order to gather some dynamite. After the sudden demise of Arzt, Jack and Locke set up the dynamite around the hatch, and successfully blow it open.

After Kate had found the Marshal's Halliburton case, she asked Jack to help her open it. She ... revealed that the key to the case was in the buried Marshal's wallet. Jack suspected that Kate had hidden motives, and asked her if anything else in the case was of importance to her. Kate claimed she only feared the guns would fall into Sawyer's hands. Jack told her he would only help if she promised they would open the case together. Kate agreed and they headed to where Mars was buried. When they had dug him up, Kate volunteered to reach in and get the wallet, and after obtaining it she jumped quickly out of the grave.

Kate Marks, the director, has given "Jack!" lots of circus flash, with inventive masks and rollicking choreography. Acrobatic skills are ... abundant, from Jack (David Myers) to his cow (Carlton Ward) to the hen that lays golden eggs (Jody Flader). Streamers fly out of the sorcery book of the old man with the magic beans (Everett O'Neil). Even the giant's stolen harp is ingenious: the body of it is a woman (Oona E. Flaherty).
