The Ivor Novello Awards, named after the Cardiff born entertainer Ivor Novello, are awards for songwriting and composing. The "Ivors" are presented yearly in London by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, and were first introduced in 1955.
The 49th Ivor Novello Awards were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London to honor and celebrate the work of British songwriters, composers and music publishers. Among the winners were some of ASCAP's top British songwriters and composers including, The Darkness for Songwriters of the Year, Radiohead for International Achievement, and Dido for International Hit of the Year, among others.

At the 47th Ivor Novello Awards presented Thursday, May 24 in London, Universal Music Publishing Group won 7 awards - more than any other publishing company. Rob Davis, UMP UK co-writer of Kylie Minogue\'s international smash single "Can\'t Get You Out Of My Head" (Parlophone), took home 3 awards: PRS Most Performed Work, International Hit of the Year and the Dance Award. Ash frontman Tim Wheeler took the award for Best Contemporary Song for "Shining Light" (Infectious), and Tim Hawes won Best Selling UK Single for Hear\'Say\'s "Pure & Simple" (Polydor). U2\'s the Edge accepted the award for Best Song Musically & Lyrically for their single, "Walk On" (Interscope). The Swedish song-writing team Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA were the honored recipients of the Special International Award.

The Ivor Novello Awards, which recognise the cream of British and international songwriters and composers, were presented earlier today at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House hotel in London. EMI Music Publishing writers The Feeling, Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse, Yusuf Islam and John Powell all won awards at the event, which is one of the most prestigious songwriting awards in the world.

In 2002, her songwriting ability was recognised with an Ivor Novello Award for "Outstanding Contribution to British Music". In 2005, she released Aerial, her first album in 12 years.
