Reitman's incredible story began with a hair-raising escape from Communist-occupied Czechoslovakia when he was only a toddler. His parents, survivors of both the Nazi holocaust and Czech Communism, imprinted on their son a sense of optimism and deep love of family.

Reitman is thrilled that the family comedy genes seem to have been passed on without dilution to son Jason. The latter’s first feature length effort, Thank You for Smoking, snagged a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. And in yet another sign of how things have changed, proud papa got the word via text message as he was landing in Toronto for some business meetings.

Reitman, who grew up in North Toronto, mostly found his way in the Mt. Pleasant Road and St. Clair Avenue area. He credits his early success in part to his Moore Park upbringing, driven parents, and close family ties.
