Animal House ignited a string of Reitman hits that has continued, almost unabated, to this day. His enviable list of credits includes Stripes, Meatballs, Dave, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Space Jam, Beethoven, Howard Stern's Private Parts, Road Trip, and Six Days, Seven Nights plus – of course – the 1984 mega-hit Ghostbusters.

In the early 1990s, Reitman began to direct fewer films, but increased his role as a producer and executive producer. He helped to produce the animated film Heavy Metal (1981), Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (1983), Beethoven (1992), Beethoven's 2nd (1993), Space Jam (1996), Private Parts (1997), Road Trip (2000), Old School (2003) Eurotrip (2004) and Trailer Park Boys: The Big Dirty (2006)

Reitman's filmmaking career began when he sold his early short student film Orientation to 20th Century Fox. Hooked on the thrill of seeing theatre audiences laugh at his work, he began to consider a future as a filmmaker. Despite his phenomenal success ... far, Reitman insists that his finest films are yet to come.

Reitman is the recipient of one of those Oscar nominations. A child of Hollywood, he used to hang out at the historic Village Theater in Westwood. Last December, his movie premiered there.

Common Hollywood wisdom may have told them to wait until after Transformers to cash in on LaBeouf's grand exposure, but Reitman didn't want to play that card. "It's an interesting question actually because there was a lot of conversation with the studio about when this movie should come out and there was a strong contingent over at Dreamworks when anticipating the success of Transformers said, 'We should wait until Transformers comes out. By then he'll be a big star and it'll help the release of this small movie.' And we argued strongly that we should just stand on our own, that this film could actually help Transformers because he plays such a rich character in this film that it will help strengthen what is more of a kind of large action extravaganza in Transformers because he will have already been preset more as a personality as a result of this."
