Israel Defense Forces: Country
built 286 days ago
Israel Defense Forces carries out a successful test of the IAI/Boeing Arrow anti-missile system at a secret location in the center of the country. The Jerusalem Post reports that “an F-15 fighter jet flying over the Mediterranean dropped a Black Sparrow test missile specially designed to simulate an incoming Iranian Shihab 3 missile headed toward the Israeli shore.” The successful interception occurred at a higher altitude than previous efforts, and tested recent improvements made to the Arrow 2 system. Israeli Air Force Patriot missile batteries ... participated passively in the test, following the incoming missile with their radars.
Emblem of the IDF Israel is the only country in the world with an operational anti-ballistic missile defense system ("Hetz", Arrow, developed with funding and technology from the United States), though an operational system is in place protecting the Moscow area. Israel has ... worked with the U.S. on development of a tactical high energy laser system against medium range rockets (called Nautilus or THEL).

Also, Israel has the independent capability of launching satellites into orbit (a capability which is only held by Russia, the USA, Europe (UK, France independently as well), China, Japan, India, and Israel).
The Homefront Command is responsible for civil defense during war and peace time, maintains an information system and distributes vital supplies to help protect Israel's civilians. The Homefront Command ... maintains a highly effective search and rescue unit whose purpose is to perform distinct search and rescue missions in the country as well as abroad, in times of both war and peace.
Female soldiers at the train station Some IDF soldiers will serve their mandatory military service in the Mishmar HaGvul (Magav), the Israel Border Police - a section of the Israel Police. Once the soldiers complete their IDF combat training they undergo additional counter-terror and Border Guard training. They are then assigned to any one of the Border Guard units around the country.
In preparing for defense, the IDF deploys a small standing army (made up of conscripts and career personnel) with early warning capability, and a regular air force and navy. The majority of its forces are reservists, who are called up regularly for training and service and who, in time of war or crisis, are quickly mobilized into their units from all parts of the country.
