Bristol Brunel Academy[1] (formerly Speedwell Technology College) is a school located in the Speedwell area of Bristol and named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It specialises in Communication. Rebuilding was undertaken in early 2006 by the construction company Skanska, and the academy was officially opened in September 2007 by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Mr Butt. Armando Di-Finizio is the Principal of the Academy. The Academy is in Partnership with John Cabot Academy. David Carter is executive Principal of both Academies.

At this period Brunel kept what might be called a commonplace book in which he collected any material which was likely to be of use to him in building the railway. This has survived as an example of his thoroughness and his astonishing mastery of all the infinite detail involved in railway construction.
