Iroquois Indians: Houses
built 626 days ago
After researching the Iroquois Indians you will fill in a chart about what each family member does. You will ... create a long house using appropriate materials from home and school. Each group member will then pick a part of the Iroquois culture and write a one page report.(religion, games, food, government, ect
). Each group will present their findings to the class.

Iroquois Indian longhouses were usually covered with animal skins during the winters to keep the inside warm. The longhouses had wooden platform booths that were used for sleeping. They had doors on both ends, but no windows. The only other openings in the house were at the ceiling. The inside of the houses were usually dark. The fire pits were located in the hallway, which were shared by the families.

The Seminole Indians lived in the Southeast region, mostly in Florida. The Indians lived in houses they called chickees. The chickees were open on all four sides except the top. The reason why they had nothing covering the sides was to let the cool breezes flow through. They had almost one chickee for everything.
