One of Ireland's most famous exports is stout, a dark, dry beer. The strong taste can be initially off-putting but perseverance is well-rewarded! The most famous variety is Guinness, brewed in Dublin and available throughout the country. Murphy's and Beamish stout are brewed in Cork and available mainly in the south of the country. Murphy's is slightly sweeter and creamier-tasting than Guinness, while Beamish has a strong, almost burnt taste. Several micro-breweries are now producing their own interesting varieties of stout, including O'Hara's in Carlow, the Porter House in Dublin and the Franciscan Well Brewery in Cork.

Ireland is a small, modern, trade-dependent economy with growth averaging a robust 7% in 1995-2004. Agriculture, once the most important sector, is now dwarfed by industry and services. Industry accounts for 46% of GDP, about 80% of exports, and 29% of the labor force. Although exports remain the primary engine for Ireland's growth, the economy has ... benefited from a rise in consumer spending, construction, and business investment. Per capita GDP is 10% above that of the four big European economies and the second highest in the EU behind Luxembourg. Over the past decade, the Irish Government has implemented a series of national economic programs designed to curb price and wage inflation, reduce government spending, increase labor force skills, and promote foreign investment.
It is Ireland’s high standard of living, high wage economy and EU membership that attract many migrants from the newest of the European Union countries: Ireland has had a significant number of Romanian immigrants since the 1990s. In recent years, mainland Chinese have been migrating to Ireland in significant numbers. Nigerians, along with people from other African countries have accounted for a large proportion of the non-European Union migrants to Ireland. After Dublin (1,661,185 in Greater Dublin), Ireland’s largest cities are Belfast (579,276 in Greater Belfast), Cork (380,000 in Metropolitan Cork), Derry (94,329 in Derry Urban Area), Limerick (93,321 incl. suburbs), Galway (71,983), Lisburn (71,465), Waterford (45,775 excluding near suburbs), Newry (27,433), Kilkenny (23,967 incl. suburbs) and Armagh (14,590).

In Ireland, students will have a unique opportunity to study IP and business transactions arising from Ireland's new trade policies. This experience will allow students a chance to study IP from both global and national systems of governance from a unique international vantage point. The program offers a broad international learning experience through a combination of classes, field trips and institutional visits. Leuven and Galway are European centers of intellectual property and major EU technology companies. Classes in Galway will convene from June 16 to July 4 at the National University of Ireland ("NUI") at Galway.

Ultimate Products DUBLIN, Ireland, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/) has announced the addition of The Taiwanese Digital Camera Industry, 1H 2004 and Beyond to their offering. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040820/RESEARCH ) The shipment volume of the Taiwanese digital camera industry continued to increase in the first half of 2004, but at a slower rate than before. The first and second quarters have traditionally been the industry's slack season. With brand-name vendors focusing on inventory clearance, the Taiwanese shipment volume consequently declined. The second half of the year... is the peak season for consumer electronics sales. It is anticipated that in the second half of 2004, the leading digital camera vendors' inventory levels will fall, resulting in an increase in orders and a consequent rise in shipment volume for Taiwanese digital camera makers.
Most trains in Ireland (all operated by the state-run Irish Rail ... known by their Irish name, Iarnród Éireann) operate to and from Dublin. Enormous expenditure on modernising the state-owned Irish Rail system is ongoing, including the introduction of many new trains. The frequency and speed of services is being considerably increased, especially on the Dublin-Cork line. If you book on-line for Intercity travel, be aware that there may be a cheaper fare option available to you at the office in the station itself. Not all special rates, e.g., for families, are available on line.
