The Iraqi Dinar is Iraq's currency unit consisting of 1,000 fils or 20 dirhams. At the end of the British mandate in 1932, the Dinar was officially introduced and was worth the British pound sterling; this equated to $4.86 US Dollars at the time.

In February, a U.S. Senate report on progress in Iraq indicated that, despite the U.S. spending $16 billion on reconstruction, every major area of Iraq's infrastructure was below prewar levels. Incompetence and fraud characterized numerous projects, and by April the U.S. special inspector general was pursuing 72 investigations into corruption by firms involved in reconstruction.

Telecommunications are very poor. There is very limited international phone service in Iraq at this time. Local calls are often limited to a neighborhood network. There are no public telephones in the cities; ... calls may be made from hotels, restaurants or shops. Limited cellular telephone service and Internet service are available in Iraq.

Alcohol is legal in Iraq and Street vendors can usually get alcohol if you really need it, but again this is just asking to be identified as an outsider. Many Iraqis do not drink, this will not help your efforts to blend in. Furthermore, while Alcohol is legal many insurgent groups in Iraq have targeted Alcohol vendors and users.
